This year’s London Fashion Week showcased a special exhibition: ‘Fashion Revolution‘ by SHOWstudio. A corresponding website launched by world renowned fashion photographer Nick Knight aims to capture the riveting relationship between fashion and digital media. SHOWstudio collaborates with industry stalwarts such as Kate Moss, John Galliano and Alexander McQueen to create and showcase innovative and cutting-edge projects that allow the audience to participate in the creative process, from conception to completion, through film, photography, illustration and journalism. SHOWstudio is one of many ventures that aim to follow and encourage the evolution of fashion communication on the digital platform.

“Incorporating the cream of this season’s monochromatic fashions, Nick Knight and Ruth Hogben’s latest film was captured on set during Knight’s ‘Black and White’ shoot for British Vogue. Set to a pulsating soundtrack, witness model Anja Rubik bring to life striking clothing and accessories courtesy of designers including Martin Margiela, Dior, Vivienne Westwood, Viktor & Rolf and Florian Ladstaetter.” Credits: www.showstudio.com

Traditionally, retailers, editors, designers and brands have struggled to understand and keep pace with these changes. However, there now seems to be a sense of urgency in being a part of this conversation and driving it forward. This development is due to the realization that technology has essentially transformed the very nature of consumer interaction with fashion. The increasing popularity and importance of fashion blogs like Style Rookie ,Jak and Jil and The Sartorialist challenges the authority of fashion demi-gods like Anna Wintour and her ilk. At the same time, sites like Polyvore, Beta Fashion, and cColbert are excellent examples of how this relationship can be profitably capitalized. Such developments have dramatically transformed the elitist face of luxury and fashion and democratized the entire process, creating a wealth of opportunities and new possibilities!
