Infographic: Child Labor
By Giselle Carr
Issue 5 Fall 2010
For the current issue of CATALYST, we explored the theme of wellbeing on a more individual or personal level, and its interpretation as challenge, readiness, resilience and joy. This is the second in a series of infographics on various indicators of the wellbeing of children in the US and around the world; the first showcased statistics on play and its benefits, while this infographic shows the current data on child labor. UNICEF’s World Fit for Children is a data document which aims to inform strategies that protect children from economic exploitation. It is also meant to prevent children from performing any work that is likely to be hazardous, interfere with their education or be harmful to their physical, mental, spiritual, moral or social development. The infographic below shows the percentage of children in the world that are engaged in labor, as well as some background characteristics of them.
