“At its meeting on March 9, Pratt’s Board of Trustees took another major step in the Institute’s overall commitment to environmental sustainability by agreeing to reduce and work toward fully divesting all fossil fuels from its approximately $150 million investment pool. Pratt will fully divest itself of all coal investments.”
This announcment is something to be proud of. Pratt added innovations in sustainable practice to its strategic plan in 2000. It dedicated itself then to developing creative leaders who would contribute to their communities and shape our shared future. It established Sustainable Pratt and several initiatives in sustainable studies and hosts a “crash course” weekend event that deepens our learning every year.
Our President, Thomas Schutte, was an early and enthusiastic champion and signer of the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment. Pratt encouraged us to “lead as if life matters” and established our Design Management and Arts and Cultural Management programs to demonstrate that economic value creation could contribute to cultural thriving, encourage prosperity and wellness, and also enrich our biosphere.
Pratt has supported and sustained our mission for the 20 years of the programs and enabled us to develop the leaders who would build out a global creative economy that was life centered as well as user centered.
This statement issued by Mike Pratt, Vice Chair and Chair of the Investments Subcommittee for our Board of Trustees is another outstanding example of Pratt’s leadership in a changing world.
Our world needs leaders able to meet organizational aims, and also lead beyond them.
Leaders who can address the challenges of our shared world.
Pratt is leading and so are we and so are you!
This is something we can be very, very proud of.
Thank you for making the decision to be part of the Pratt community and to practice the art of future shaping.
And, thank you for leading as if life matters!
Regards,
