Jingle Wells: This Holiday, Trade the Gifts for Water

by Giselle Carr

The CATALYST team is preparing to launch Issue 6, the first of two with the theme of “Designing Desire”. As consumer behavior shifts over the next month or so, many of us are pre-occupied with purchasing gifts for loved ones. Recently, I noticed that charity: water has re-launched their fundraising initiatives with a special emphasis on replacing gifts with donations for building wells. However, the most strategically designed part of the message leaned toward crowdsourcing, as the quick graphic slideshow on their site asks the viewer “What if you give up gifts this year and use the money to build a well? What if others did the same?”

A large part of the strategy behind charity: water is transparency, in that the donor is assured that 100% of their donation actually goes to the building of wells. Innovativeuseoftechnologyanddesign has been used for this express purpose, as donors can see exactly the difference their contributions are making this holiday season. Visit charity:water to learn more about how to get involved and make a difference today.
